Like most fans I can still remember the first time I hear Counting Crows; Shrek 2. My family bought the soundtrack after the film came out which featured the song Accidentally In Love which, consequently, I fell in love with.
For reasons beyond my understanding, I never tried to look up more of their songs. Right up until 7 years after first hearing them.
I was staying at my Girlfriend's flat, talking to her friend about music until about 3am. I told him that I was a big Bruce Springsteen, R.E.M. and Gaslight Anthem fan. He, in return, told me he was a huge Counting Crows fans and that the first thing I should do when I got home was listen to August and Everything After.
Then, when I got home, the first thing I did was listen to August and Everything After.
And I listened to it everyday for months.
It changed the way I think, feel, write songs, and approach other bands.
Basically what I want to say is, thank you Counting Crows. For everything.
One day I hope to meet you, maybe even if you embark on a tour of the UK anytime soon support you! (If only. I guess I'll just have to keep dreaming for now)

Comment by Cal Airey on August 19, 2011 at 6:59am SERIOUSLY....! "Like most fans I can still remember the first time I hear Counting Crows; Shrek 2" Are you serious!! I would think most Crows fans remember the first time hearing them back in 93-94 when August & Everything... was released or when Mr Jones was out as a single, or maybe even earlier at the Paradise Lounge or somewhere - ... Shrek man!! I see you are young so I will go easy on you but your comment almost made my tea come out through my nose!!
Buy yourself the rest of their albums and get on it man. Enjoy, but pleease dont ever think that Shrek made the Counting Crows. x
Comment by Calum White on August 20, 2011 at 2:44am I meant, I remember for the first time I heard Counting Crows; for me it was on Shrek. At what point did i say it made them? I thought I'd share a moment that was important for me, personally, because obviously I wasn't old enough for them to have any affect on me when they first came out.
And I have bought myself their albums, thanks.
But seriously, I apologise for pissing you off, I can kind of see how you mistook what I meant. I'd hate to know what you'd say if you weren't "going easy" on me, possibly swear a lot at me and make me feel bad and forbid me to listen to them again for not finding them sooner than Shrek 2, so thankfully I avoided such treatment.
The point is that I love them now, have their albums and listen to them on a daily basis. Who gives a shit how I first heard them, that's really not important.
I'm going to go sit in the sunshine now and decide what to do with my day,
have a good day,
Calum
Comment by Cal Airey on August 22, 2011 at 1:29am Hey Calum, sorry.. I can see I may have over reacted (slightly)! I just hate that whole Shrek thing and people thinking they know the Crows from that one song. Anyway, I am really glad that you are a huge fan like me. May I suggest that you spend your day listening to the Crows in the sunshine - that sounds like a good day. I am stuck at work, but have my headphones in so I am getting my daily fix of Adam and the guys too.
Enjoy. x

The GreyBird Foundation was established because we believe America is a dream in which the thoughts and needs of each and every person matter. Unfortunately, people feel small as the world expands and they forget that they ARE America.
So we find the people down the street from you who are trying to do their part to help and we try and help THEM. Get involved with the idea of being involved people. After all, it's your town, your country, your world, and no one will ever make as much of a difference as you can just by waking up and being a part of it.
